Fundamental Vocational Assessment

The Fundamental Vocational Assessment considers the functional impact of symptoms on an individual's home life and work potential.

What is a Fundamental Vocational Assessment?

This expert assessment considers the work role in its broadest sense, including voluntary and paid work.

The Fundamental Vocational Assessment clarifies how neurological symptoms, the environment, and an individual's well-being impacts their capabilities and work performance by outlining key strengths and challenges, risks, and support needs. It explores the functional impact of neurological symptoms on an individual's home life and work potential.

The remote assessment examines how the environment and the individual's experiences affect physical, cognitive, and psychological needs. It can help case managers, legal professionals, and employers to understand the vocational needs and work potential of an individual, as well as those wanting to understand the functional impact of their diagnosis.

Who is a Fundamental Vocational Assessment for?

Individuals

This has been designed for working age individuals with a neurological diagnosis, those who are suspected or confirmed to be neurodivergent, and those with complex physical needs. It is suitable for those at or absent from work, returning to work, seeking employment, or managing work alongside other responsibilities.

Support professionals

The Fundamental Vocational Assessment is suitable for employers managing return-to-work processes, as well as case managers or legal professionals requiring objective reports on work potential for a client with neurological or neurodivergent conditions.

What is Included in a Fundamental Vocational Assessment?

This assessment includes:

  • Standardised impact and severity rating of neurological symptoms
  • Review of medical status and current medical support
  • Analysis of function with an emphasis on work routine, job role, and demands
  • Exploration of strengths, challenges and values, and motivators relating to work

However it does not include:

  • Recommendations regarding alternative roles
  • Standardised cognitive, sensory, or environmental personal impact evalution
  • Support for senior executives, executives or business critical roles where an understanding of risk is required

If you require the services that are not included, we recommend a Work Capacity Assessment, a Psychological Needs Assessment, or a Cognitive Evaluation Assessment.

The Outcomes of your Assessment

Upon completion of a Fundamental Vocational Assessment, an individual will understand their ability to attend to the daily life tasks they want to, need to, or are expected to perform in their home life and work environment.

The neurological occupational therapist will have answered any key questions the individual or their referrer had and will provide recommendations that the individual can act upon to support their functional abilities at home and in the workplace.

Recommendations may also be provided for the employer so that modifications can be made for the individual to stay in or return to work.

Depending on the needs of the individual, this vocational assessment may also include recommendations that reference a need for further occupational therapy assessment to establish the extent of an individual's potential and to influence the quality, efficiency, and independence of performance and participation within activities. A vocational rehabilitation programme may also be suggested.

  • I just wanted to drop you a line to say, whenever I call the office, Claire, in particular, is always very charming and efficient. She is a good representative of your company and has a nice phone manner and a good approach to customer service. So, thank you Claire. Mother of brain injury survivor
  • The following will never be enough to illustrate Paul’s journey but we are eternally grateful to the NHS, IM, ILS, Krysalis and the whole infrastructure that has been created for Paul. Yes, Paul is focused, determined and driven but the whole team have created a rehabilitation environment that has changed our life and Pauls future, they have made the thought of life and rehabilitation, turn from the impossible to the possible. • The thought of having the family undertake this journey alone seems impossible and we will be always grateful. We all recognise that James is still on the rehabilitation journey, but there is no stopping him. He has just walked to Mum’s & Dad’s on his own (phone first to say he’s on his way)... what a way to celebrate the 2-year journey.Brother of brain injured survivor
  • I highly recommend Krysalis Consultancy OT services. Anna has been our life line since she came on board to help my husband following his brain injury. He has improved greatly thanks to Anna’s input in assisting him to become independent, teaching him step by step the simple things which we all take for granted. Anna is there for us 100%, teaching us both strategies to enable us to achieve better results.Wife of brain injured survivor
  • Just a short note to thank you very much for your hard work and persistence over the last few months, your guidance has undoubtedly helped and taken the pressure off me (I have benefited from the sessions greatly). I am really encouraged by the last few weeks and optimistic that if Peter keeps working at it he will continue to make good progress.Brother of brain injured survivor
