GAIN - Group for Autism, Insurance, Investment and Neurodiversity

We are widening the Krysalis neuro OT net again…with GAIN (Group for Autism, Insurance, Investment and Neurodiversity)!

Despite great progress in the promotion and recruitment of a diverse workforce […] neurodiversity is often the forgotten missing link.

GAIN

For the second time in less than a year, we are delighted to have forged another company partnership that will enable us to spread our occupational therapy net even wider.

Our new partner is the Community Interest Company, GAIN - Group for Autism, Insurance, Investment and Neurodiversity.

GAIN works on highlighting the advantages of employing a neurodiverse workforce within insurance, investment, and related financial services sectors.

They help develop an understanding of autism and raise awareness of the proven positive impacts a neurodiverse workforce can make on business performance.

And now, we are helping them achieve their aims by offering our expertise in occupational therapy, vocational rehabilitation, and sensory integration to support neurodiverse workers.

We'll be detailing how we are helping when we join our new partners along with workplace revolutionary Dame Stephanie (Steve) Shirley CH at the virtual and free GAIN Neurodiversity Expo 22 later this month. [1]

Dame Stephanie, whose late son was autistic, is a passionate neurodiversity advocate and philanthropist whose life in the UK began in 1939 when she arrived as an unaccompanied Kindertransport refugee. [2]

The Companion of Honour (CH) membership is limited to just 65 individuals globally and was awarded to Dame Stephanie for her services to the IT industry and philanthropy. She has kindly agreed to be the guest speaker at the Expo.

Welcoming our new beginnings with GAIN, our Clinical Director, Jo Throp, said, "The team at Krysalis are thrilled to be working in partnership with GAIN. I believe our combined commitment to neurodiversity will make a positive difference for all. We look forward to seeing what this exciting collaboration can achieve when two organisations who feel passionately about neuro-inclusivity come together!"

Krysalis's sensory lead, Clinical Manager Nichola Shellum, said, "As neuro-occupational therapists, we understand the brain in all its complexity. We are excited to be working with individuals and employers, helping them learn about how the workplace can support individuals to be understood and maximise their potential..."

GAIN offers bespoke employment support and guidance for employers and neurodiverse adults, young people, and their families and carers.

It can also signpost people to its other partners providing support, including Employ Autism, arcQ, Exceptional Individuals, NDSA (Neuro Diverse Self-Advocacy) and Microsoft Learn.

A GAIN spokesperson explained why its work was so important.

"Despite great progress in the promotion and recruitment of a diverse workforce, where equality, gender and disability are recognised, neurodiversity is often the forgotten missing link.

"With 1 in 100 people in the UK diagnosed as autistic and many more living day-to-day with other forms of neurodiversity, often undiagnosed, there has never been a better time to recognise the great potential for neurodiversity in the insurance, investment, and financial services Industry.

"We believe that the industry could benefit greatly from the skills that neurodiverse individuals often excel in, such as a methodical approach to tasks, a strong attention to detail, alternative creative thinking, and looking at situations from a different perspective."

And in the run-up to the event, find out more about how our neuro OTs help clients with sensory challenges when we launch the first in a new series exploring sensory preferences and sensory (SI) integration therapy on Monday, June 20th 2022...
